COFFEE, CHOCOLATE AND WRITING
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlereaders,
I recently discovered a fantastic new program, so of course I have to share it with you. :) It's called MuseScore and you can download and use it for FREE! http://musescore.org/
The back story: When I write, I sit very quietly in a very quiet room. Being in this awesome stillness allows me to focus and obsess over my newest story, article, sketch, etc.. Well, anytime I sit quietly in quiet rooms I play music in my head. Most of the music I've never heard with my ears - it doesn't exist.
The other day I discovered a fantastic FREE program (MuseScore) that is changing all that head noise into real life sound. Of course, the uses for such compositions are unlimited in the hands of the right people, so I contribute sound clips I think others might like on Freesound.org (And to my delight, people actually hear them, then grab the clip to use for whatever creative project they're working on.).
About the program: MuseScore is a program created specifically for music composition writing. (You can see how that would be right up my alley, right? :)). Writing sheet music, in eras gone by, was not a sport for the faint of heart, nor for people with short attention spans. One had to sit, listen to the music in their head, then take pencil to paper and color in the musical description of what they "heard" so that other musical artists could understand what sound they were to make with their voice or instrument, and when, in order to bring to life for the composer the music he or she had only heard in the private recesses of their beautiful minds. Today, any hack can create whatever sounds they want to hear in comparative milliseconds and with relative ease, using MuseScore.
Using the program: You don't have to know much about music composition to use this program successfully. This is a very, very important point to remember. If you cannot read music and only "play by ear", you'll find this program to be very, very friendly.
When you open the program for the very first time, watch the "MuseScore in 10 Easy Steps" videos by Katie Wardrobe. In these short video tutorials, she will quickly show you how to use the program. I, of course, watched the videos only to make sure that I could record and hear what I was creating in real time, and use the created music file in my chosen music player forever and ever (or until its creator no longer supports their product. :)). This is, to me, a critical component of writing a piece of sheet music - because I am an impatient sort. I just haaave to know right away if I've recorded a foul note that will forever mar my memory of an elusive tune.
About the process: MuseScore provides you with composition templates, or you can choose to scratch out your musical creations on the fly. (I prefer the latter.) The instruments provided are adequate for most tasks and, with few exceptions, ring true to form. You can create, modify and play back until you're heart's content. Then you can choose to save your work both as sheet music and as a .wav file which can be played by most, if not all, music players found online. (Note: These are not the only ways to save your work. There are a variety of file saving options.)
Imagine: Imagine the benefit of being able to send a music producer not only a written score of the next hottest song in the market (your creation), but also a sound file so he/she can hear that amazing tune immediately - no band/orchestra assembly required!
About editing MuseScape .wav files: Once you've created and saved your musical masterpiece in a .wav file, you have virtually unlimited options. You can open it in your music player and keep hitting repeat - great fun - or you can modify it with reckless abandon using Audacity. I, naturally, cannot leave well enough alone so I save my music to a .wav file, then open that file in Audacity to continue toying with it until my ears tell me the work is complete. I even use Audacity as a compiler. This sound editing software is awesome. It allows me to take created musical selections, plunk them down (otherwise known as copy/paste) and mush them all together until they're thoroughly unrecognizable. :)
Okay, so now I've told you how to get started creating your own musical masterpieces without investing a penny. Now you have your very own band, orchestra, stringed quartet, and accompaniment at your disposal. Now you have access to two programs that will forever change your life (MuseScape and Audacity). Now, here's my closing thought for each of you today:
Let's go and do today, and share tomorrow.
Let's giggle, laugh til it hurts
Let's go for a ride in the country, the city
Let's walk in the woods, across a frozen lake, through a new store
Let's hold hands, snuggle, have sex
Let's live until we meet again, and share what we've seen and done tomorrow.
Happy Adventures to you all!

The investigating police detective knows who she suspects, but her history and reputation in the department stand between her and the criminals she knows she can bring to justice. A police lieutenant, a
prosecutor, and a defense attorney become unlikely co-conspirators, each promoting their own agendas and careers, to protect the guilty.
A cunning man with a vivid imagination and the money to bring reality
to other people's fantasies, Theodore Duncan finds himself in a position to gain
an unlikely ally in his efforts to locate a woman presumed dead for over a year,
or discover who has taken her place. The woman he seeks, Anna Peteskow, is the one remaining of three power figures in the underworld of the world, enjoying the freedom to influence governments around the globe and eliminate those who oppose her without ever hitting a headline, if you don't count her understated obituary in an Ohio newspaper.
The ally he discovers has all the power the rest of his people lack; she is
Anna's youngest daughter. If Duncan can discover Anna Peteskow alive, Jennifer Peteskow can attest to Anna's absence from her family home at critical moments of world events, and if she will do that, others can attest to where Anna really was and with whom. But can Duncan trust this young woman who may be taking over Anna's operations, could be issuing orders to her operatives as artfully and secretly as her mother once did? Does Jenny, Anna Peteskow's youngest daughter, know what sinister things her mother has done while maintaining the unflappable appearance of a doting homemaker? Is Jenny Duncan's enemy, or a hapless fool caught up in a vengeful plot devised by her mother to get to him?
In A WICKED GAME of TRUST, a 4-book series, you'll be taken into the underworld of the super powers with Jenny Peteskow. You'll meet people who control the happenings you see on the news from around the globe, and catch a glimpse of where leaders and operatives go when they wish to, or need to, hide from each other. You'll discover how a commercial jet liner can crash yet remain completely intact, everyone surviving except the two people a man wants captured and delivered to him. You'll learn what it feels like to fight, yet lose your freedom and completely disappear.
