Misread is a story that takes place in St. Petersburg, Florida in the 1990s.
Nearly losing his life when his best friend's house explodes, Peter Shaw is tormented by his need to find out who is behind not just his near-death experience, but a series of violent crimes that threatens those closest to him: his wife, his best friend, and his best friend's only child.
Despite his best efforts, the one person who can help him most side-steps his every attempt to solve the crimes she seems to know too much about.
As those around him fall victim, 'Pete' and his former partner, and best friend, retired Detective Jim Swartz, drive unswervingly toward the discovery of the menace that threatens their city and everything they hold dear.
Introducing the Primary Characters
Pete Shaw: I'm retired, but somehow my retirement has been anything but a good time for me, my wife and our friends. I've got the fine house on the beach, a pension that keeps the bills paid and a pick-up that gets me from point A to point B smiling, but... Well, I've got to tell you, there's a lot that's gotten past me recently that's creating havoc in my neck of the woods.
Madeline Shaw: I'm Maddy, Pete's wife. I sat on my hands for the better part of my life, taking
care of my God-daughter, Katy, and helping Pete fulfill his dreams on the St. Petersburg Police Force, but now he's done with all that: retired. Now it's my turn to follow my dreams with Pete's help. Turn about's fair play, right?
Jim Swartz: I'm Pete's best friend. We were both detectives on the St. Petersburg Police Force. Pete and I retired at about the same time, thinking we'd be living on easy street. Ha. I live up the street from him and his wife, Maddy, and spend my days keeping them company and trying to keep my daughter, Katy, happy. Such is the life.
Katy: I'm Jim's daughter, Maddy and Pete's God-daughter. I own my own art gallery in St. Petersburg, and business is pretty good, but lately it feels like I'm running myself ragged. When I'm not at the gallery, I'm usually over at Pete and Maddy's house; that's usually where my dad is too, so if I want to see him, that's where I start looking.

I really enjoyed the book. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I'm waiting for my friend to finish it to see what she says. I hope you're writing another one! Thanks again!

It was an excellent book and a real page-turner. I love how you jump
right into the problem and leave out the dull and boring details that many
writers find it necessary to explain. My favorite character is Maddy for
some reason. A very determined woman. Then you took a 180 degree
turn. It was great! I kept saying, "no, not Maddy, I like her." But, I like
surprises in the books I read. If a book causes emotion, then the book
is good. Please stay in touch.

I finished your book. That was really a surprise and tricky ending. I'm sure
those who have bought a copy thought it was intriguing too. By
golly, I believe you have talent!

Okay it was WONDERFUL.......! I have to admit that I wasn't expecting it to be that great. I know what your thinking but..... It was
your first book and even though I knew you could write, I thought it might be a little less than ... I knew you could do one day. Well you don't
need to wait for some day, it is already here...! I just knew that I would get what was going to happen long before the end....NOT... The
whole time I was guessing this and that and not getting any thing right. Half the books I read, I know what the ending will be. Yours is so fresh, not a rerun of any thing I have ever read...!! I actually only put it down twice once I started it, once to eat supper and the other to soak my muscles. Now that doesn't happen with a lot of books I read....LOL I'm going to be so ready for the next one, please tell me I won't have to wait that long...LOL
Linda
I finished your book and I'm amazed that you can plan all of that out! I
wasn't expecting that ending. Congratulations to you for all the
work you did on that.
